Join us for a unique, one-day event at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand in Christchurch as we celebrate ten years of astrobiology in Aotearoa.

This special day is dedicated to teachers who are passionate about inspiring curiosity, scientific thinking, and big questions, such as: Where did we come from? Are we alone? And what is the future of life on Earth and beyond?

What to Expect:

• Inspiring talks from visiting NASA experts and BMSIS scientists, including:

Sarah Marcotte (JPL) – Science communication & planetary exploration

Dr. Sanjoy Som & Dr. Graham Lau (Blue Marble Space Institute of Science) – Astrobiology, Earth analogues, and the search for life

A keynote by Haritina Mogoșanu, Executive Director of the NZ Astrobiology Network: Why Bother? – Astrobiology and the Future of Life

A preview of our portable astrobiology exhibition, built for schools and public spaces across Aotearoa

Educator sessions and Q&A with local and international presenters

This event is part of the wider From Aotearoa to the Origins of Life: Ten Years of Astrobiology series and brings together local teachers and global voices in science.

Who is it for?

  • Earth & Space Science, Biology, and Physics teachers
  • Educators in primary and secondary schools
  • Those interested in cross-curricular approaches, planetary science, or indigenous science integration

This event is made possible with the generous support of the U.S. Embassy in New Zealand and the Air Force Museum of New Zealand.

SpacewardBound.NZ

While this event stands alone, it also forms part of our ongoing SpacewardBound.NZ initiative — a long-standing collaboration between Kiwi educators, NASA scientists, and science communicators. The programme supports the integration of astrobiology into New Zealand classrooms through real science, story, and exploration.
