It will be winter in New Zealand. The Rotorua area in late June can be cool to cold (no snow!), sunny to cloudy to rainy. Definitely bring full rain gear, solid shoes (light hiking boots recommended), warm clothing layers to adjust to temperatures, hats (one for sun and another for warmth), sun screen, and water bottle. Recommended: camera, gloves/scarf and collapsible umbrella. Sampling is not permitted except for at Mangatete fossil sinter and quarry. Field trip organizers will provide rock hammers for Mangatete; no need for overseas visitors to bring hammers.
We will be based in Rotorua for the duration of the field trip, so please extend your accommodation for after the conference. Breakfast and lunch are not included in the field trip costs. Pick up location for field trip each day to be determined closer to the date. Field trip starts approximately midday on 27th after main conference finishes. The remaining two days will have early starts (approx. 8am) and late afternoon finishes (by about 6pm, back in Rotorua).
